Abstract
The article explores the significant role that religious institutions play in maintaining peace and preventing violence, with a particular focus on the challenges faced by Christian churches. Highlighting Pope Francis' 2024 remarks on the necessity of peace and tolerance, the study examines cases of state interventions against religious entities, such as the prohibition of the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine. It draws parallels with historical examples like the post-Trianon period and communist-era restrictions on religious bodies. The analysis emphasizes the key role of universities and cultural institutions in fostering open dialogue and rebuilding disrupted communication networks. The work argues for diplomacy and strategic relationship management as essential tools for sustaining religious freedom and avoiding conflicts rooted in political motivations.
