Abstract

People of today are more and more uncertain about truth and the meaning and aim of life. There are too much information, consumption and egoism which are partly the basis of the growth of modern societies. In this abundance the eternal verities of faith are fading away. One of these verities is male and female identity which is the foundation of life and family and one that is changing completely. The role of women is especially changing rapidly. The study tries to present the beginning of human life, the era of the creation in relation to gender differences. In the Book of Genesis the unbreakable unity of the two sexes is strictly defined as well as their differences, different roles and characteristics. The topic is discussed with the relevant books of the Bible together with the analysis of the works of Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel. Art can be helpful in imagining and understanding beauty, sin, man and woman, and their differences alike.
