Abstract

Culture, on the basis of the original meaning of the term, requires the activity of the individual and the society. Today we tend to aspire for more and more comfortable conditions. The rapid development of civilization and technology altogether entail the passivity of the majority of the society. We can increasingly experience the decline of individuals’ literacy and personal culture in every segment of life. The situation is worrying since economic conditions are constantly emphasized, while cultural decline continues in the background, which causes increasing regression. Today, the majority of the society is not aware of the obvious correlation of the standard of living, quality of life and cultural development. This is a major problem, because society can progress only by culture and education, and if norms and moral attitudes have adequate position in value system.
This study aims to draw attention to the importance of cultural development, and emphasizes that the concept of civilization does not necessarily imply high level of culture.
