Espugnazione per negati: La fortezza di Kanizsa al centro di un trattato secentesco di arte militare

Abstract

The Discorso sopra l’espugnatione della fortezza di Canissa of Federico Ghislieri is a peculiar example of the changes in scientific literature at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. In a letter to an Italian prince, Ghislieri outlined his plans to occupy the fortress of Kanizsa relying on his own experiences at the siege of the same stronghold in 1601. In this paper, I first make an attempt to place this work in the oeuvre of Ghislieri, and then I examine the characteristics of the genre of the letter.
