Abstract
One of the starting points for the theoretical-historical study of pedagogical phenomena is a philosophically and anthropologically grounded view of man, based on the understanding of man and the world in different historical periods. This implicitly underpins and significantly influences the current discourses on education, their value systems and ideologies, and also, indirectly, the institutionalised framework of education and the practice of education. It is from this perspective that we will outline the historical processes of change in the European conceptions of the world, of man and of Bildung.
