Abstract

The aim of the study is to demonstrate that the various elements and stages of a teacher’s career largely determine the career orientation and retention of trainee kindergarten teachers. In our research, we will examine the extent to which the motivation of kindergarten teachers to remain in their career is influenced by the workplace atmosphere of the institution, including the pedagogical communication of the head. In Hungary, too, the supply of qualified teachers and the development of human resources in educational institutions are major challenges. We often encounter a shortage of teachers, and the number of career leavers and career changers is worrying. Nowadays, thanks to the teacher salary increase, we can rightly expect that this will change, since salary increases are an environmental effect that has a high motivating power. By exploring the conceptual approaches and determinants of extrinsic and intrinsic motivation related to career choice and career retention, we can focus on a large body of useful information during mentoring activities. Career orientation is an interesting intellectual challenge during career choice and career entry. The conditions for staying in a career include reducing reality shock, mentor support, and the leader’s affirmative attitude. My thinking strategy is to clarify concepts, obtain and systematize information, and research relevant information in order to help novice kindergarten teachers.
