Abstract

Official history writing states that there is an abrupt change in comunication technology with the invention of printing. Barbieri argues that the opposition is to be reinterpreted and shows how hand written books and printed books are connected in history, having the first as a model for the first in every sense. Another contact point is shown in the books of calligrapy of the 15th and 16th centuries, an often forgotten aspect of the history of book printing.
