Abstract

What kind of mixture exists between the new and ancient mythographical models of cities? What sort of mythography, redefining myths and dissolving them from their sacred and profane features, does contemporary literature propose? Are Chico Buarque’s Budapest, Claudio Magris’s Danube or Péter Eszterházy’s Harmonia coelestis new examples for a new European mythography? What is the meaning of "mythical" for a 21st-century city? What is the role of perifericity in the mythographied cities of postmodernity? These are some questions this paper will consider.
