Resumen

The essay of Ms Fréchet presents Eloi Abert's The Pagan Faust (Lou Faust paisan), a play that can be considered as the author's most important piece of art. In the essay the three versions of the legend are compared: the original legend, the Volksbuch version, the version of Goethe and that of Eloi Abert. Ms Fréchet concludes that the play of Eloi Abert is a form of resistence against the materialistic way of life which came to dominate the countryside by the beginning of the 20th century.
