Abstract

Even though the Bible was written two thousand years ago, it has always been represented in Arts. Biblical figures often appear in literary works but some of them are especially popular, that is the case of Judas Iscariot. In my paper, I will analyse three novels of contemporary French literature (Stéphane Arfi: Trois jours à Jérusalem, Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt: L’Évangile selon Pilate, Gérald Messadié: Judas le bien-aimé) and my aim will be to highlight how this biblical figure appears in contemporary French literature, what similarities and differences there are between the biblical texts and the novels, to what extent these representations are different from one another.
