Abstract

Building on the historical foundations of future visions, the study presents the role of some influential twentieth- and twenty-first-century scientific models in shaping alternative scenarios for the future. The text critically examines utopian, dystopian, and postmodern visions of future, highlighting their relevance and limitations for educational strategies. Contemporary challenges – digital transformation, ecological crisis, global inequalities and cultural polarization – influence educational trends worldwide. Key issues in education include equality, mental health, resilience, and curriculum flexibility, as highlighted by contemporary domestic analyses. Hungarian teacher candidates, who described their expectations for the school of the future, expect improvements in child-centered and inclusive attitudes, but they expressed concern about serious problems observed in the education system. The study represents, that while education cannot resolve global crises, it plays a vital role in interpreting trends, fostering values, and preparing adaptive strategies for uncertain futures.
