Abstract
The present work focuses on three Mexican writers in the Diccionario de Autoridades (Dictionary of Authorities) (1726–1739), by providing information about the authors and their work. Secondly, it describes how academics authorized words in the Dictionary from two points of view: numerically and the use of “Americanisms”. Finally, it tries to explain some nuances that the concept of “authority” involves.
