Abstract
This paper presents an analysis of some of the poets that took part in the poetic contest, called Certame Coronario in 1441, organized by the humanist Leon Battista Alberti. We'll discuss the great poetic anthology, the Compilation of Aragon, put together by Lorenzo de'Medici and Poliziano in 1476. The merit of the anthology is its systematic summary of the vernacular poetry from the 13th century (Duecento) until the second half of the 15th century (Quattrocento). We provide an analysis of the selective criteria of Lorenzo and Poliziano, which reveals their concept of vernacular poetry and language.
