Therefore, we primarily publish studies in the fields of sociology, political science, psychology, communication, cultural anthropology, education, religious studies, philosophy, and economics. Furthermore, the journal pays special attention to the "borderlands" created by the intersection of different scientific fields, which enrich the exploration and understanding of a question, problem, or phenomenon under investigation with a trans- and interdisciplinary perspective.

https://ojs.ppke.hu/hisz/article/view/1373The University2025-06-25T16:07:49+00:00Bernhard Bleyerbernhard.bleyer@uni-passau.de
On Sunday, 30th April 2023, Pope Francis visited the Faculty of Information Technology and Bionics at Pázmány Péter Catholic University in Budapest. It was the end of his visit to Hungary. In his speech, the Pope focused on the impact of various technologies. What is striking about his speech is that he combines different motifs into one message. He interprets the following texts: Romano Guardini’s (1885–1968) letters from Lake Como, the novel The Lord of the World by Robert Hugh Benson (1871–1914) and Gaudium et spes, the Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World. This article discusses these three writings in the context of the conference “Fürsorge: Spiritualität und Führung” (‘Care: Spirituality and Leadership’) (17–18 April 2024).
2025-06-25T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Mónika Nyitrai; Bleyer Bernhardhttps://ojs.ppke.hu/hisz/article/view/1374AI Technology in Technical Translation Courses2025-06-25T16:41:02+00:00Zita Hajduhajdu.zita@econ.unideb.huJános Farkasfarkas.janos@econ.unideb.hu
This position paper examines the expanding role of machine translation and artificial intelligence in translation and translation training, highlighting both opportunities and limitations of using translation software and artificial intelligence that should be incorporated into university translation courses. Also, this paper provides a theoretical approach including new perspectives and personal viewpoints. The authors firmly believe there is a need for university translator-training programs incorporating AI literacy and featuring the importance of human linguistic, cultural, and contextual proficiency and machine-assisted translation tools. Literal translations, omissions, and incorrect or meaningless translations of terminology crucial in technical translation are the most frequent translation mistakes. The free versions of translation tools can only perform a limited number of tasks in a given time frame and have a limited vocabulary. Adaptation to different text styles is only achieved by the paid versions. After considering the lack of cultural background knowledge and other weaknesses, having a linguistically and technically competent translator to check the text is still essential. Ultimately, the paper follows a balanced approach that uses AI's benefits while highlighting the core competencies of human translators.
2025-06-25T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Hajdu Zita, Farkas Jánoshttps://ojs.ppke.hu/hisz/article/view/1375Promoting Charity and Social Sustainability in the Church’s Legal and Institutional System2025-06-25T16:58:56+00:00Lóránd Ujháziujhazi.lorand@jak.ppke.hu
The Catholic Church has been a more prominent advocate of social sustainability in comparison to other global political and national actors. Indeed, promoting social justice and peace is a pervasive theme within all Catholic institutions. The ecclesiastical legislature, following the Council’s intentions, has established ecclesiastical institutions from the initial stage to be capable of promoting social justice. In recent times, dioceses, episcopal conferences, parishes, and local communities have become significant contributors to major public policy goals, including the preservation of the natural environment, the promotion of peace, and the establishment of regional security. The study emphasises that the centralised support provided by the offices of the Pope and the Holy See is both practical and deeply theological in nature. The study hypothesises that the Catholic Church will play a central role in understanding and implementing social sustainability soon due to its possession of both the theological doctrine and the institutional framework.
2025-06-25T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Ujházi Lórándhttps://ojs.ppke.hu/hisz/article/view/1376The Importance of Sustainable Development and the Marketing Activities of Eco-Schools2025-06-25T17:17:53+00:00Kitti Csatócsato.kitti1230@gmail.comGyörgyi Kővágókovago.gyorgyi@kre.huJudit Pálmaipalmai.judit@kre.hu
Sustainable development has become increasingly important worldwide in recent decades. The issue is crucial in terms of the need to preserve the Earth's natural resources in the long run, while also being essential for building a more livable future.

This article examines the marketing activities of eco-schools. These institutions embody everything that education can contribute to sustainability, while also engaging in marketing efforts to achieve their sustainability and other objectives. Our study aims to explore how the environmental programs and sustainability initiatives of eco-schools, as marketing activities, impact student enrollment rates, institutional social responsibility, and students' environmentally conscious behavior.

The research was conducted using a quantitative method, specifically through a questionnaire survey. Out of the 1,402 schools in the Hungarian Eco-School Network, 148 completed questionnaires were returned.

The preliminary results indicate that environmentally conscious programs and sustainability initiatives have a significant impact on student enrollment. Schools that actively engage in eco-friendly activities attract more interest. Additionally, eco-conscious marketing efforts and participation in local and national environmental actions enhance the institution's social reputation and strengthen cooperation with local communities. Moreover, these eco-activities positively influence students' environmentally conscious behavior.
2025-06-25T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Csató Kitti, Kővágó Györgyi, Pálmai Judithttps://ojs.ppke.hu/hisz/article/view/1327The Importance of Agent-Based Models in the Management of the Coronavirus Epidemic2025-01-20T09:38:06+00:00István Zoltán Regulyreguly.istvan@itk.ppke.hu
The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic underscored the vital need for adaptable and precise epidemic modelling tools. While traditional compartmental models were of crucial importance at the beginning of the epidemic, their limitations soon became apparent. Agent-based models have several advantages: they have much more fine-grained spatial and temporal resolution, and they can model the behaviours of individuals more accurately, therefore they can represent the complex dynamics of society better. In this study, we give an overview of the advantages of agent-based models, as well as our experiences deploying them, with a particular focus on age-stratified interventions, lockdowns, and other non-pharmaceutical interventions not easily modeled with compartmental models. We highlight the importance of calibrating to and validating with real-world data, and the challenges involved. Finally, we present the work and experiences of the epidemic modelling group at the university.
2025-06-25T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 István Regulyhttps://ojs.ppke.hu/hisz/article/view/1377Swabian Population in Azerbaijan2025-06-25T17:30:59+00:00Zoltán Eperjesieperjesiwsuf@gmail.com
In my study, I present the economic, social and cultural situation of the Swabian population settled in the first half of the 19th century in the South Caucasus region of the Russian Empire, in the north-western part of present-day Azerbaijan, in the 19th and 20th centuries. The majority of the Swabian population emigrated from the German Kingdom of Württemberg, which was suffering from the Napoleonic Wars, due to poor economic conditions, as well as religious discrimination and persecution. The Swabians were attracted to the area in the hope of a better life and livelihood, as well as religious freedom, and the promise of economic benefits from the Russian Tsar Alexander I. Sailing down the Danube River and along the Black Sea, they reached the western parts of the South Caucasus, where they established settlements. After very serious difficulties at the beginning, the Swabian population, as in other parts of Eastern Europe, such as the Banat and Bacska regions of the Kingdom of Hungary, Bessarabia and various regions of the Russian Empire (Black Sea coast, Volga valley), established a flourishing agricultural and wine-producing culture, a high-quality craft industry and important commercial centres. The post-1920 Soviet communist regime nationalised the former German agricultural and industrial production and trade enterprises. After Germany had attacked the Soviet Union, Germans living in the South Caucasus, including those in the Socialist Soviet Republic of Azerbaijan, were deported to Kazakhstan and Siberia in the 1940s on the basis of collective guilt. This ended the flourishing Swabian history and culture in the South Caucasus, which had lasted for more than one hundred and twenty years.
2025-06-25T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Eperjesi Zoltánhttps://ojs.ppke.hu/hisz/article/view/1378Implementation of the Right to Fair Trial in the Enforcement Procedure2025-06-25T20:45:42+00:00Zoltán Sőres.zoltan.vh@gmail.com
The right to a fair trial is a fundamental right that everyone has an idea of, but we cannot fully define the concept of fairness or grasp its entire meaning. On the other hand, the desire for everyone to be fair – whatever the word means – is certainly admirable and worthy of respect, especially when the actions of a person authorized to exercise some power are unavoidable.

The individual’s feeling of injustice can be a direct result of any form of legal enforcement, and if the desired result of legal enforcement does not occur, the institution of legal remedy can provide a second chance.

Obviously, not all legal remedies can necessarily mean that any legal violation can be fully resolved, since legal remedies may serve other interests, even delay the proceedings. The background, subject matter and decision of the legal remedy are the result of human activity, and as such, it has imperfections, so its continuous examination and development may be worthwhile.

In this study I present the only substantive form of legal remedy that can be submitted against the juditial officer’s action in the enforcement procedure, the enforcement objection, in the light of fair trial.
2025-06-25T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Sőre Zoltánhttps://ojs.ppke.hu/hisz/article/view/1379Christian Education and the Enforcement Procedure2025-06-25T20:59:29+00:00Zoltán Sőres.zoltan.vh@gmail.com
Judicial enforcement has never been held in high esteem in society, so it can be said that the majority of the society, as well as economic actors and supervisory bodies, have a certain unease and prejudice when they hear the word enforcement, regardless of the fact that the bailiff has become part of the legal profession.

In my study, I explore the connection between enforcement and, in part, judgement, and the Bible, as a result of which, the world's most popular book may provide a basis for further reinterpretation of the executive function, not to devalue it, but rather for its recognition. The study also links Christian education to executive law, by analogy, since education has a fundamental influence on our worldview and future actions.
2025-06-25T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Sőre Zoltánhttps://ojs.ppke.hu/hisz/article/view/1337Sensitivity to Put Down in Different Types of Pride2025-03-10T18:59:56+00:00Bertalan Alpár1alpar.bertalan@gmail.com
Background: Pride and shame hold a prominent place in the literature on emotions. The feeling of pride is now divided into two subtypes, which are distinguishable from each other by their opposing personality correlates. However, the literature on these subtypes in the context of shame responses is scarce. Consequently, we have limited data on how the two types of pride behave when put down.

Aim: This study aims to examine the relationship between types of pride and self- and other-blaming behaviors in put down situations.

Methods: The study involved 135 participants over the age of 18. The types of pride were assessed using the Hungarian version of Tracy and Robins' (2007) questionnaire (Bolló et al., 2018), and responses to being put down were assessed using the Hungarian version of Gilbert and Miles' (2000) questionnaire (Horváth et al., 2022).

Results: Despite the sophisticated dichotomous picture drawn by the relevant literature regarding the two types of pride and their associated traits, this distinction does not manifest in everyday behavior. Data analysis revealed no relationship between the examined types of pride and responses to being put down.

Conclusion: While shame and pride are tightly intertwined within an individual's personality, it seems behavioral responses to shame are not related to the type of pride an individual possesses. This study suggests that previous research may have overemphasized the role of pride types in human behavior. Focusing on behavioral responses when being put down, gives us a good chance of detecting the effect of pride types’ on our behavior, because the nature of the situations are deeply connected to our feelings of pride. However if pride types have no significant influence on behavior in such relevant senarios, one might question whether they make any difference at all in less relevant everyday situations.
2025-06-25T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Bertalan Alpárhttps://ojs.ppke.hu/hisz/article/view/1380The Price of a Just Order2025-06-25T21:20:08+00:00Tamás Treuertamas.treuer@gmail.com
Background and Objectives: The aim of this study is to explore why contemporary theories of social justice—particularly those of John Rawls—encounter resistance in practice. The concept of justice often faces not only social and political, but also psychodynamic and social psychological obstacles.

Method: Theoretical analysis within the frameworks of psychoanalysis, critical social theory, and political philosophy. Following Rawls, the study examines the foundational concepts of justice and investigates their psychological distortions on three levels: individual, group dynamic, and societal.

Results: The paper formulates four new hypotheses regarding the psychodynamic mechanisms that hinder the realization of social justice and offers practical suggestions to address them. Special emphasis is placed on the analytic attitude as a tool for social reflection.

Conclusions: The key to achieving social justice lies not only in institutional reform, but in the reorganization of collective psychological structures. This requires the integrated application of critical psychology, analytic thinking, and symbolic cultural practices.
2025-06-25T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2025 Treuer Tamás
